How Minimalism saved me from upgrading my Google Storage

I got introduced to minimalism last year and have been loving it ever since. It’s been a long time since I have been trying to optimize space in my Google account and had almost given up when I came across this new way to tackle it.

So apparently google storage is a combination of your drive, Gmail, photos, etc. For me, photos were taking up the most space. Now photos are really important as they are priceless experiences for a person.

I was looking for a way to archive my old photos yet be easily accessible. That is when I stumbled across Partner Sharing. It allows you to share photos from one Google account to another in one click. So all your Google photos from one account can be copied to another. I know what you are thinking. The benefit is when you delete from your parent account, the child account doesn’t lose the photos. Photos once shared remain there. The strange thing is these photos don’t use up the child account’s storage either. Not sure if this is a glitch.

So here is what is done finally —

  • My iPhone backs up to Google Photos which is backed up to an archive version of Google Photos in sync.
  • Every time my current Google account is out of storage I remove all the photos that are archivable (making sure the child account has it).
  • And relax knowing that I don’t have to see that annoying little red progress bar again.

Minimalism is the best thing that could ever happen to me. Less Is More!
