Minimal friendships?

Minimalism is the art of living with less. And with less, I mean less of everything. It can be clothes, furniture, books and even friends. We will focus on the friendship part today.

We all have that one friend who is just there in your life. They don’t help out. They never call. But when it comes to money they reach out to you immediately. You feel that is an urgent situation and lend them the desired amount. Years go by and then you again get a message saying send me more money, It’s urgent.

Years go by and the same phenomenon gets repeated. And you are happy that you can help someone out. But the day you need help and they cannot manage you, you feel disappointed. You start questioning all the years of choices you have made for this person. The way you have managed to lend the needed help. The thought has always crossed your mind: I always keep lending help, but I never get anything back. But then you think maybe someday you will get the help you need from them.

They refuse to help you and they just let it slide by. Months have crossed since you needed them and they reach out to you again for the same — money. And then you ask them — is money the only thing you seek from this friendship? Ouch! They get offended. They start hurling abuses at you for saying that. You listen to all of that. You take that indecent behaviour after years of helping them out…
