Minimalism: Selling My Bike Off

This has been a bit emotional day for me as I finally sold off my dear bike today. I remember the day I had finally gathered all my courage to buy my first bike — which meant taking my first loan ever in life. It was my first job and I was earning enough to sustain myself and my cute family. Then one fine day one of my friends told me “You don’t have a bike yet? All of us do.” And that is when I decided to get me one. I paid half in cash, and the other half as a loan. And wallah it was mine.

Today after so many years I realise that I wasn’t able to do justice to it. I was never a rider per se. I liked riding bikes but not long rides. I still don’t understand why people travel through such harsh weather just to reach a place and then return back. I mean we have public transport in this world. What are our governments for anyways? But anyway, who am I to judge?

For me, the bike was becoming a sad story. I used to see it stuck in my garage day after day. I used to take it out once in a while so that its battery doesn’t run out. But the occasional costs were huge — the fuel, the insurance, the maintenance, servicing, and top of all, the pressure to go on rides. Ah! was eating me up. Vehicles depreciate in value like anything. I sold it for almost half of the price that I bought and that too because it was in good condition. The interest paid, the garage fees, the fuel spent, the services, the insurance costs, the road tax, and many many more. Was it worth it? I don’t know.
