Retiring rooms of IRCTC

Pretty impressive stay in #travelbytes

Recently during our train journey we got a chance to stay at the retiring rooms of IRCTC. We boarded from Kannur(CAN) and the retiring room is just on your left as you enter the station on platform 1.

For some reason IRCTC has an online booking facility too but it doesn’t work. No family rooms were getting allotted. We could only find male dormitories online. The AC rooms cost 675 and have to be taken for a minimum of 12 hours. However, online they do provide slots of 3, 6, 9 and 12 hours. But alas the online ones don’t work.

Since it was not a rush hour, they allowed us to check the rooms before we could finalise and boy were we impressed. The rooms were surprisingly neat and large enough for a small family. You need a valid PNR for booking the room though. Once you checkout you can handover the keys at the counter. I am a little concerned though if the rooms are cleaned after each checkout or not.

We did notice a lot of the rooms on our floor were empty. Upon enquiry we got to know they were reserved online. Something fishy going on.

Anyways the stay was peaceful and the prices were apt for the stay. Would always prefer retiring rooms over nearby hotels any day.
