Crisp summary of what is happening in tech around you …

Instagram brings in the option to delete accounts — Instagram on iOS has finally introduced an option to delete your account. Earlier, users had the option to deactivate their accounts, but this allowed the user’s data to be stored on the servers. This is in line with Apple’s guidelines which mandate apps should allow users an option to remove all their data from an app.

WhatsApp allows a second chance to banned accounts — WhatsApp will now allow users who are banned from its platform, due to violation of the WhatsApp policies, to request for uplifting the ban. This was a much-needed feature as around 16 lakh Indian accounts were banned in a few weeks. The feature will roll out on the android beta soon and is likely going to appear on the contact page of WhatsApp.

Youtube’s fight against impersonators — In the fight to wipe out impersonators from its platform, Youtube has come up with a new set of features which include — no longer hiding subscribers on the channel (this will allow users to distinguish a genuine account), improved creator comment moderation (which will allow more filtering of abusive/spam comments on your content) and reduced character set in channel names (lesser number of characters while naming your channel so that one can’t use special characters to impersonate a genuine channel).
