The need to buy everything

“Everything is becoming costlier around us. Dad, those days are gone. You need more money these days. Dad, these things cost this much these days. You have to pay this much now.”

You may have heard stuff like this every now and then. Is it true? Is inflation really beating us to it? Your income is 5x of what your dad used to make and most of us still don’t have the necessary savings for emergencies today. Just check your bank account, do you have money to afford a cancer treatment in liquid form?

Inflation hasn’t increased as much as our lifestyle has. The fact is you are no better than you were 10 years ago. Those dresses, those cars, those fancy gadgets don’t define you. Deep down you are still the same person. You still laugh at stupid jokes, and you still want to eat everything unhealthy and everything else you used to do as a child. The fact is we are obsessed with buying new things to impress others. If you don’t believe me here is a list of things most of us have today —

  1. A big fancy house — There are 3 people in your house where you can accommodate 10. All the fancy interior, all the fancy pillars, fancy tiles. Did you have these growing up? And because of not having these did you grow up differently? Most of our ancestral houses were 1 storeyed with 10 people living peacefully and joyfully inside them.
