As people strive to upgrade themselves every day, cars have become an important item on their lists. And as always newer cars depreciate quickly and are a steal when it comes to second ownership. The only catch is that you have to find that sweet deal.

Once you locate that dream car of yours, the next part is to transfer that mean machine into your name. With the digital era kicking in, it has become really easy to transfer one these days in India. Here are the ways you can do it.

Documents Needed

  1. Registration Certification (RC) Original
  2. A valid Insurance Copy
  3. A PUCC certificate
  4. OTP receivable mobile numbers of seller and buyer.
  5. Aadhaar copies of seller and buyer.

Process — Akshaya Center

  1. You can visit your nearest Akshaya center. They do all the paperwork for you. But the submission has to be done at your nearest RTO (Road/Regional Transport Office)
  2. You submit a copy of the Aadhaar of both seller and buyer and provide mobile numbers. An OTP is triggered on both numbers.
  3. Post that you will be asked to sign on Form 29 and 30. The seller and owners have to be physically present there.
  4. You pay them Rs. 650 and they give you all the documents to be submitted to the nearest RTO. They also charge you another Rs. 100 as their service charges.
  5. Once at the RTO, you submit the original RC, copies of Insurance, PUCC, and the forms from Akshaya. No charges are incurred here.
  6. The wait time is 2 weeks. The changes will be reflected on the mParivahan app. The new RC will come via post to your Aadhaar address.

Process — We Help Agencies

  1. WeHelp is an agency that has been doing these transfers for a long time now. You can find one probably in your area.
  2. You submit the same set of documents as mentioned here as well.
  3. At certain districts, they make a sale agreement since WeHelp doesn’t give you any document of acknowledgments. The sale agreement mentions the amount at which the sale happened and the owners' names, details, etc
  4. They charge you Rs. 1350 and take care of submitting it to the RTO.
  5. The wait time is the same but you save a trip to the RTO.

Process — Agents

  1. These are individuals who collect all the above-mentioned documents and take care of everything for you.
  2. Chances are they do it by one of the two steps mentioned above.
  3. They charge you Rs. 2000 but you are care free.
